How do I avoid copyright infringement for material provided by a publisher?

Answer

Firstly, it is always important to remember that just because content is attributed does not mean you can use it. Many materials will still require permission from the copyright owner.

Check copyright permissions in the permissions register. (We may already have permission for it)

  1. If material is not already available, lecturers are required to individually apply for permission for the material to be used. The Request for Copyright Permission from is linked to at the bottom of the page.
  2. Limit the use of these materials where possible. Use Creative Commons material or take your own photos.
  3. Once permission has been obtained, upload it to Content Manager (link below) and ensure the material is placed on the Permissions Register including, any usage conditions (only photocopy, or only electronic copy etc.).

Also make sure you attribute the material appropriately. E.g., ‘Used with permission from Franklin & Co. Publishing, 2023.’
