How do I avoid Copyright infringement when using images from a recommended textbook for instructional PowerPoints?

Answer

When a decision has been made to use images from a particular textbook, it is important to ask permission from the publisher/supplier before using the content.

Publishers and/or Suppliers need to be contacted in writing, ensuring they are informed how the material will be used. (E.g., The images will be used in an instructional PowerPoint for students.)  Use the Request for Copyright Permission form linked to at the bottom of the page.

If permission is not given, seek an alternative or substitute with creative commons images.

Any permissions granted need to be uploaded to the Permissions file in Content Manager. Link below:

NMT/F24/105 - INFORMATION MANAGEMENT - INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY - Copyright Clearances and Permissions - 2024

These permissions will be required when the College is audited.

Make sure you label and attribute – e.g., ‘Used with permission from HB Pencils Publishing House, 2023.’
