Under what conditions am I able to format shift or copy material using section 200AB?

Answer

Before format shifting, (for example, moving video from DVD to an unlisted YouTube,) there are certain conditions that need to be met.  

  1. No other statutory licences can be applied to this situation. 
  2. Your use does not ‘unreasonably prejudice the copyright owner’s interests’ or ‘conflict with the normal exploitation of the work.’ (If it is commercially available, we cannot format shift). 

Please contact your library for further information about format shifting. You can also, try searching for the video or an alternative via our Online Resources (Link Below) or see if the creators of the material have posted it online and link to it. USB plug-in DVD players are also available to be borrowed from the library if you wish to show a DVD to students in class.  

If all else fails you will need to seek permission from the copyright owner, use the Request for Copyright Permission form at the bottom of the page.

Then upload the permission to the appropriate file in Content Manager. Link Below:
