Using AI to Generate New Images

Answer

When using AI Image Generators to create new materials, the same rules apply as to other forms of AI and Copyright.

  • Check the terms and conditions of the AI platform and whether they assign copyright to generate the image or if it is under a different licence (e.g. Creative Commons).
  • Only use images that have been generated by people employed by NMTAFE and the images have been created as part of that person's employment.
  • Unless the Generative AI's terms and conditions state otherwise, label any images created as follows:

This work has been generated [insert name of AI tool]. Any copyright subsisting from this work is owned by North Metropolitan TAFE, [Year].

More information about Using Generative AI Platforms and TAFEs can be found on the Smartcopying website, linked to at the bottom of this FAQ.
