What is ARTSTOR?
Answer
Artstor is a huge image database which draws on 300 collections from around the world. It is particularly useful for the Art & Design areas of study. You can access Artstor from the Art & Design Course Resources here https://library.artstor.org/#/home
Staff and students need to register an account to get the most out of the database. It is a very quick process but note that you need to do this for the first time when you are on campus. Click on Register in the top right hand corner and fill in the details. After this you can access from anywhere by using the Log in button.
Artstor provides easy access to curated images from reliable sources that have been rights-cleared for use in education and research — you are free to use them in classroom instruction and handouts, presentations, student assignments, and other noncommercial educational and scholarly activities.
And unlike results from Google or other search engines, these images come with high-quality metadata from the collection cataloguers, curators, institutions, and artists themselves.
