How do I use IEC 60617 – Graphical Symbols for Diagrams?

Access the Database with this link: https://products.iec.ch/view/search/all

  1. If you do not have access, but need it contact Fiona Whalley or your Librarian. You will receive an email from IEC with your login details.

  1. On the search screen, look to the column on the right and make sure that Subscriptions is turned on. It should look like this… If it is toggled off you can just toggle it on and only search within our subscription

  1. The search bar (top of page, centre).  From the drop-down box change publications to symbols and then do a search.
  1. Click on the symbol you would like to use. You can download it by clicking on one of the links located underneath the symbol itself under the heading Files. Formats vary, so take note of the extension required before clicking on it. The software required for each type of file is listed below and all staff have access to at least one option for opening each kind of file.

Extensions and Software Required:

Dwg:       Requires CAD software such as Autocad, Or Adobe Illustrator – which can be downloaded from the Creative Cloud

Eps:        Adobe Illustrator to open – Download Illustrator from the Creative Cloud

Gif:         Just opens in pictures with no specific software required.
