Account Activation
After completing your enrolment, it may take 24–48 hours for your account to become active across all online systems.
Returning Students
- Use your previously created password.
- If you need to reset your password, go to:
https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com
Accessing Microsoft 365
Log in via:
https://login.microsoftonline.com/
First-Time Login to Student Email/Microsoft 365
- Email: StudentIDNumber@tafe.wa.edu.au
Example: 20001234@tafe.wa.edu.au - Password: Your default password (unless you have already changed it).
Default Password Format
tafewa + your date of birth (DDMMYYYY)

Steps to Sign In
- Enter your Student ID followed by @tafe.wa.edu.au.
- Click Next three times.
- Set up Microsoft Authenticator (required).
Microsoft Authenticator Setup
- Download the Microsoft Authenticator app on a working smartphone (Apple or Android)
- You can set it up using:
- A smartphone only, or
- A smartphone and computer.
- Use the downloadable instruction sheets linked at the bottom of this FAQ for guidance.
Tip: If possible, download the app before visiting a campus library.
If you do not have a smartphone, contact a campus library for assistance.
Accessing Email on Your Phone
To access your TAFE email on your mobile device, Microsoft requires you to install the Outlook app.
Important Account Information
- Access to your Microsoft 365 account will be disabled and deleted 85 days after you complete your studies or withdraw from a course.
- Copy any data you need to another service before access is removed.
Data cannot be restored after this time. - You may lose access to Blackboard immediately after withdrawal.
