How do I set up my Microsoft 365 / Student Email?

Answer

It may take up to 24-48 hours after completing your enrolment for your account to become active in all our online systems.

Access the North Metro Website

https://www.northmetrotafe.wa.edu.au/

  • Go to 'Info for'
  • Click on 'Student essentials'
  • Scroll down and click on 'Activate your Microsoft 365'
  • Click on the 'Microsoft 365' link

OR

  • Scroll down to the bottom of the NMT Website and click on the Microsoft 365 link.

Login to Student Email/Microsoft 365 for the First Time

Email Login:         Student ID Number@tafe.wa.edu.au
Password:            Your default password (unless you have already changed your password at home or on a student PC)

Your default password is tafewa (all lower-case) and your date of birth in DDMMYYYY format, e.g., tafewa14092006

  • Sign in using your Student ID Number followed by @tafe.wa.edu.au eg. 20001245@tafe.wa.edu.au
  • Click on Next three times.
  • You will now be required to set up Microsoft Authenticator.

Microsoft Authenticator

When you setup Microsoft 365 for the first time you are required to download the Microsoft Authenticator Application to a working smartphone.

  • The App is available for both Apple and Android devices.
  • It can be set-up using a smartphone only, or with a smartphone and computer.
  • Use the Downloadable Instruction Sheets, linked at the bottom of this FAQ to guide you through the setup process.

Change Your Password

If you log on to Microsoft 365 or Blackboard at home as your first login you will be prompted to change your password. This password will then be your password for all of the College systems.

If you log on for the first time on a college computer you will be prompted to change your password as you log in and that will then be the password for all the College systems

Password Requirements

  • Must be a minimum of 14 characters, and can be any combination of letters or numbers.
  • You cannot reuse a password you have already used
  • You cannot include any part of your name or date of birth

Password Expiry

Your TAFE password expires every 6 months - you MUST change it before it expires or you will be locked out of all our online systems. If you do forget to change it, however, please contact a campus Library as we can change it for you.

You can change your password on a Student PC by using CTRL+ALT+DELETE and choosing Change a Password.

Or via the settings in Microsoft 365 - click on the settings cog in the top right hand corner of your Microsoft 365 account and choose change your password

If you are having any problems with your password please contact your Campus Library
